Born in Lisboa, Portugal to parents of Portuguese/Russian descent, Veronica Marie and her partner of almost six years, Christina Anne, will soon celebrate their second wedding anniversary. The couple are “still very much on honeymoon!”
Veronica has written for Flash Fiction Friday and Phil Ambler's (formerly Lily Childs’) Friday Prediction. She has been published in Pulp Metal Magazine; THE LOST CHILDREN: A Charity Anthology; the horror anthology 100 Horrors, from Cruentus Libri Press and appears in the inaugural issue of Literary Orphans magazine. Veronica also has stories in Paul D Brazill's DRUNK ON THE MOON 2 - A Roman Dalton Anthology; Katherine Tomlinson's NIGHTFALLS: Notes From The End Of The World - a 'last days' anthology and Near To The Knuckle's debut anthology, GLOVES OFF... the 'brainchild' of Darren Sant and Craig Douglas.
Her long fascination with noir fiction prompted Veronica to try her own hand at writing fiction – “the last two years have been a roller coaster!” Veronica counts among her mentors - Carole A Parker, Lily Childs, Paul D Brazill, Richard Godwin and Joyce Juzwik.
Veronica currently has several 'works-in-progress'... a noir fiction novel, tentatively titled 'After The Tears', her memoir, The Story Of A Girl, an odd number of short fiction pieces, as well as publishing a collection of her flash fiction and short stories. Music fuels my creativity to a large degree; music and people. I get inspiration from everything around me... especially people. I watch and observe their reactions and interactions - mass transit is a great place to do this. I look at a person... a situation... and I say "What if...?"
I write because I can't not write... it's that simple. I have been writing in journals since age six and several years ago, as part of ongoing therapy, I began writing of my ordeal in my junior year of college. Of course, those were completely private and I wouldn't even let my partner, now wife, see them. From there, I started writing more about mine and Christina's relationship.
I've always been an avid reader, mostly fiction; particularly noir and crime fiction. And so it was that one day, about two years ago, I sat down and penned my first fiction piece. I haven't stopped since.
Anais Nin, Nicole Baart, Alice Sebold, Richard Godwin, Cara Black, Lily Childs, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Charles Dickens, Paul D Brazill, Stephen King, Sara Gruen, Scott Turow, Michael Connelly, John Sandford... I could go on and on. I read a lot!
To Kill A Mockingbird, Markus Zusak's The Book Thief, pretty much anything by King, Great Expectations, Presumed Innocent.
