About Me

Born in Akron, Ohio in 1971. I've also lived in Philadelphia and, since 1998, Sweden.

Author of the bilingual novel King of the Cannibals (Numera negerkung. Sweden: Kabusa böcker, 2009), a novel about a guy from Philly who signs up for Iraq, gets cold feet and runs away overseas. The novel consists of his letters home in English, as well as essays in the language he is learning, Swedish. His letters give a mostly honest view of what he's going through, while in Swedish he imagines himself to be Lay-Z, the world's most famous hip-hop artist. As the novel progresses, his Swedish improves... but his English deteriorates until in the end he can't be sure who he is or what language he is speaking.

Critically very well received in Sweden. Not translated into 100% English.

Why do you write?

Why do I write? Because I don't believe in fighting.

Any favorite authors? Books?

At the moment I'm reading books by Tove Jansson, Seutonius, Roberto Bolaño, and David Wallace.

Thanks for your comments on "Insect Eater", and for taking the time to read my work. Like Brooke in "Turista", I know very little Italian--so I probably can't teach you much more! :)
