  • About Me

My newest novel is Float, published by Ashland Creek, a press that specializes in environmental literature. Float, which is set in Maine, swirls around conceptual art, bankruptcy, marital woes and plastics in the ocean. My first novel was Addled (Little, Brown), and that focuses more on animal rights and food. My short fiction has been widely published, most recently in Fifth Wednesday and Imagination & Place, Cartography. When I'm not writing I take care of a couple of rescue donkeys, Abe and Zach.

    Why do you write?

I think humans are a pretty funny species, and I can't help but write about it.

My creativity is fueled by nature, and observing the interaction between humans and their environment, natural or otherwise.

    Any favorite authors? Books?

Cheever, Updike, Maugham, Didion, and MFK Fisher are a few favorites, but every time I read a great book I usually have a new favorite.

The Wapshot Chronicles by Cheever is a particularly loved book, as is The Mists of Avalon.

Thanks for the congrats! I love Junot Diaz, so I was really happy about the win. I hear you and Jen had a great time at AWP. Maybe one day I'll manage to get my butt there too!

Just took a look at Bear Deluxe. What a great place to publish the first chapter of your new novel. I can't wait to read it.

Jen says such wonderful things about you that I feel like I know you. I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed "Addled." Please keep me posted about upcoming publications. I'd love to read more of your work.
