Incantatory Plea to the Civic on Interstate 75
by Gary Hardaway
So much depends upon
a water pump, heat exchange,
integrities of gaskets, hoses,
clamps, and lubricants,
and reliable repetitions
of valve-work, springs, and camshafts.
May the timing belt stand the stress again
of varying speeds from five to sixty-five.
"clamps, and lubricants,
and reliable repetitions
of valve-work, springs, and camshafts."
Nice use of echo to find a new way. *
Fave, Gary. I love how you find poetry in the simple everyday things. I'm often reminded of some Gerard Manley Hopkins lines in "Pied Beauty":
"Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim."
Thanks, Sam and David. And thanks to whomever left a star without a note.

I went through a helpless adventure with these horrors today.
Fave* and misery.
I once owned a '69 VW, the heart of which was larger than its engine.*
Can feel the tension.*
Metaphysical auto mechanics and the power of positive thinking. *
Thanks very much for kind commentary, Letitia, Gloria, Gary, John, and J. Mykell.
