Kitchen cornucopia
refuge of forgotten oddments
fistulas of rubber bands
pens bereft of inky speech
spools of tape and stranded toybits
whetstones, scissors, woodscrews, thumbtacks
A place for all, all in its place
but if it's not it's likely here
look here last and then give up
Underneath the microwave
there rests a drawer uneasily
misaligned and off its runners
overstuffed, resisting closure
crammed to bursting with its trove
of treasures long ago abandoned
huddled in their crowded cloister
pearls that overflow their oyster
Take a moment to explore them
Artifacts gone obsolete
miscegenating in suspension
to call them junk's a derogation
but nothing else seems better suited
Shut the drawer and re-inter them
let them bide for you unreckoned
cherish them like hoarded snowballs
sheltered through a summer swelter
