by Brian Mihok
On a ship twice run aground a sailor cranked a rope round a spool bigger than his head. He could see overboard and also the strip of deck on which he walked down to get to the crank. What he noticed most, as always, were the green echoes in the sea foam against the hull.

This appeared in Invisible Ear #4-- invisibleear.wordpress.com. I took the title from a Robert Pollard lyric. I imagined a guy who constantly wrecks his ship because he can't help but look into the water. I love looking into water.
This story has no tags.
A terrific short, Brian.
Thanks, Marcelle!
ha, this is good
i too love looking into water
reminds me of the wire season 2 when mcnulty was forced to work for the water cops
i'm not sure language gets much better than "the green echoes in the sea foam against the hull"
Thanks David.
You know, everyone I know who watched it says that show is tops. I need to catch up.
Short is how I like my writing and this is very concise and to the point. Well done.
Indeed, Brian, it's worth it. Season 2 isn't even that great a season compared to seasons 1 and 3...but man Mcnulty on the water is hysterical.
Also, Maura Stanton's comments on her recent piece were fantastic (as was her piece). d
I agree about the Stanton pieces. She's good.
