"New Sun Rising: Stories for Japan" is asking for submissions. I am helping out with the editing, and it would be great to have some work from the wonderful writers here.

    Link for the website/submission guidelines:

And here is a little more about what we're specifically looking for, which is poetry and fiction in the spirit of Japan but not simply about the disaster:

I'm also thinking of setting up a haiku group or something along those lines here, so maybe people could try their hand at some haiku for the cause.

Oh my goodness, you can't edit these posts?

I included the wrong link for the website/guidelines -- here is the right one.

Thanks, Lou. I had something ready, so I sent it off. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Thank you, James! Something tells me you have more things 'ready' than I'll ever write.

It's a little naked right now.

i've submitted. should i put those flashes into the group here? two of them were briefly shown here. i don't understand the posting of stories to groups on fictionaut. never have.

apart from that, this thread deserves to stay at the top of everyone's consciousness just like the disaster in japan which is, you know it, far from over. good on ya, frankie.

This is a great cause - and project.

Another question - In the guidelines, I didn't notice a mention of previously published work. I realize that most anthologies collect published and unpublished works, but I wanted to be certain here. Will you consider material that has previously been published – with acknoledgements?

I hit post too quickly - I believe acknowledgements still has a w in it.

Hi Sam, we will take previously published work. Yes, yes, please send something.

Marcus, thank you for the support and I'll let Frankie take the group question as this is something that confuses me, too.

Because of the stoic will, the inner strength, and the amazing energy of the Japanese people, there is a tendency to imagine things are not so bad. People will forget, imagine the worst is over.

This disaster has only begun to reach a level of comprehension around the world and will soon fade in relevance in the news cycles. But know this ... the effects will remain for decades.

If this is only the least we, as writers, can do, it's something. Contribute, yes. And when the anthology comes out, buy it, boost it. People, bring it...
