    I did the cover myself with a dud grenade, a table, a black quilt, and just the right cast of light.
    I could never afford to have someone do it for me.
    Really enjoyed doing this and I plan to publish a novel next and very soon.

    Only a bit of the way through, but feeling these strengths of JLD's writing; rich command of the vernacular that registers the most subtle of feelings, in sometimes stoic characters. A ranging across forms of narrative that seems to cut each story to its right length. Finally( but not finally since I look forward to reading the rest with other rewards) a depth of experience of his own that grounds invention in fundamental realities and through the lens of his fictions allows us to better see the world as it is, behind the masks.

    Of course, to be recommended to all serious readers.
