I am a science and technology fundraiser, recovering journalist, tree hugger, book lover, dance machine and mom. My writing arc is wonderfully circular. I started writing poems as a teenager, moved to journalism, then to press materials, then grant proposals. And now, again, poems. Recently, I wrote some songs. And an essay. Writing is something I can't seem to quit, along with reading just about anything - magazines, books, blogs, recipes, newspapers. I'm a word girl.
Nature is my sure-fire muse. Hiking, paddling, a nature walk, a beach comb, you name it. My daughter, prosecco, and a really good read can also fuel me.
My favorite authors are Gabrielle Garcia-Marquez, Hunter S. Thompson and Vladimir Nabokov. I greatly admire Jonathan Franzen and Susan Orlean, My favorite poet is, by far, Mary Oliver. The only thing that seems to bind these writers is incisiveness and verve.
