About Me

I am a native New Yorker, but now live in Baltimore on the same block Scott Fitzgerald lived when he was trying to bring Zelda back from the brink. I teach at the Baltimore School for the Arts.

Why do you write?

Now, writing stories for me is a way of understanding a concept. It is a kind of bad philosophy where the material that gets worked and reworked is thought itself.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Alexander Kluge...The Devil's Blind Spot
W.G. Sebald's...The Emigrants is a recent obsession
Jorge Luis Borges...I read often as an article of faith
Edith Wharton...Age of Innocence is a book I like to reread
Robert Browning...my favorite poet
