Freelance writer from Detroit, Michigan who has been previously published in national magazines- personal essays. Currently working on a memoir of her life growing up as a biracial- black and Polish/Russian Jew in a Bordello in Detroit's 1950's thru 1960's.
I write to purge my soul and show others how unique- and odd life can be. After Iget this memoir off my psyche, I will pursue creative fiction.
So hard to say! For every one I list, there are ten others I leave out. But I love the stories of Jack London, especially "The Call of the Wild," "To Build a Fire" to name just two. Charles Chestnutt is another short story writer I enjoy, Guy de Maupassaunt and other of his French writing contemporaries. Hemingway,(All works) Isak Dinesen,(Allwritings) Ralph Ellison, (All writings) Kate Chopin, ("Desiree's Baby") and Anton Chekov (all stories), John Cheever (The Swimmer)- just to name a few.
Thanks, Darryl, for the lovely welcome!
Linda Kay--you are a survivor! And your smile says you are still soul-intact. Welcome.Hooray for Jack London, too!
