Kevin Morgan Watson
About Me
I am the founding editor of Press 53, a small literary publishing company located in Winston-Salem, NC. I don't own a Harley-Davidson, but I should. I don't get out as much as I would like and I can never seem to find enough hours in the day or week or month. I am extremely opinionated and don't mind venting. I try to avoid discussions on politics and religion, but I believe the world would be a better place if it were run by women and if everyone would start believing that creation is more powerful and moral than sacrifice. I love peanut butter and even wrote a poem about it. I also love wine and dark beer and a good cognac. Sometimes too much, but not often. I also love my family, my wife of 22 years, and our three children, who can drive me more nuts than I already am.
Why do you write?
I used to be a writer. I can still write, but I prefer long stretches of quiet, which I rarely get, so now I edit and design and publish. I used to hear music and lyrics and first lines of stories; now the music is gone and the words are hiding under the rocks and driftwood in my head, so I search for great writing and enjoy sharing it with the world.
Any favorite authors? Books?
My Top Five (that I didn't publish): To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee; Welcome to the Monkey House, by Kurt Vonnegut; The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway; Same Place, Same Things: Stories, by Tim Gautreaux; Grass Fires, by Dan Gerber. One of my favorite authors is John Ehle, whose books are classics and are being brought back into print by Press 53. He is America's best kept secret and just may be America's greatest living author. Seriously.
