Recent graduate of the MA program at the University of Cincinnati with an emphasis in making lists.

Why do you write?

I stew about writing more than I actually write, or it feels like I do. My heart is stirred and my brain is, too, by television commercials and waiting in line at the grocery store.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Margaret Atwood signed my copy of Alias Grace and told me that every writer has an ideal audience, even if they never know them.

I also like Kelly Link, Octavia Butler, Lois Ann Yamanaka, Jhumpa Lahiri, Neil Gaiman, and Virginia Woolf, among too many others. Jane Austen and I are like this.

Hi Jillian. Nice picture!

Do you really write a lot of list poems or stories? I just read two great list poems in the new issue of Columbia Poetry Review. One was by Susan Yount and the other was by Bob Hicok.

Also, if you like Mermaids, I think there is a big mermaid parade every year in Coney Island. You should go before they ruin the place. I should too.
