About Me

I am a writing professor at the University at Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center. I’ve published more than 170 short stories, poems, articles, scholarly papers, and public radio essays. My books and plays include The Wheel of Desire, Shimmerville, the children’s tale Dots, Sleepwalker: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Matter of Intent, Picture Perfect, The Best Woman, and the forthcoming novel Blackbird Rising. A member of the Just Buffalo Literary Center, the Dramatists Guild of America, and the Mystery Writers of America, I won the 2005 Edgar Award from MWA for Matter of Intent.

Why do you write?

Writing keeps me grounded and sane.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Ray Bradbury, Joyce Carol Oates, John A. Williams, James Baldwin, Robert B. Parker, Walter Mosley, Tennessee Williams, George Orwell, Stan Lee, David Sedaris, Stephen King, Sue Grafton, Agatha Christie, Richard Wright, Ariel Dorfman, Ian Fleming, Octavia Butler, Damon Knight, Dr. Suess, Edgar Allan Poe . . . the list is endless
