I'm a British writer wandering the Atlantic on a lonely raft, writing stories about the various coasts where I strike land. I will be attending a PhD in English / Creative Writing this autumn, but am yet not sure where.
The vain stuff: I am forthcoming at The Tampa Review, have been a finalist in Narrative, Danahy, and Glimmer Train fiction contests, and won the 2011 Toni Brown scholarship to the Winter Getaway writing conference. I have published essays on Stanley Fish and Saul Bellow at the Fiction Writers Review. My 1851 novel on whale hunting and how it exemplifies man's place in the cruel cosmos is taught at many colleges around the world.
I have been blogging for many years. My site is onpinestreet.com -- I talk about prose style, teaching, poetry, and food.
Best wishes,
Daniel
My creativity is fuelled by good amounts of sleep and a liveable wage.
One day I would like to be able to answer, truthfully and not as absurd boast, the question, "why do you write?" by quoting William Blake: "The Nature of my Work is Visionary or Imaginative; it is an Endeavour to Restore what the Ancients called the Golden Age."
Housekeeping; Fearful Symmetry.
