I love telling stories about my childhood on a farm and ranch in the 50's and 60's. I am exploring the dynamics of my extended family and its various dysfunctions through young adult fiction. My years of nursing and science, and a keen interest in human behavior have proved invaluable. Mostly, though I love New Mexico, it's landscapes, it's gente (folks), and my deeply rooted heritage.
I grew up reading everything...even stealing the neighbor's Book of the Month Club Ian Fleming books. I was 12 years old, and knew my mother wouldn't approve, so I undid the box, climbed a tree, read the book, and returned it to the mailbox the next day. Nobody ever said a word. The librarian at our public library got my mother to sign a letter to allow me into the adult section when I was 10. My favorite books were the Flicka series, Nancy Drew, anything by Thomas B. Costain, Mark Twain, and William Faulkner. Today, I read everything, usually two or three books at a time.
