when i take a hint, i take it really hard

by Peter DeWolf

it's the
constant reminders
of something that was
never
a constant
remind her
but
i suppose
there is no
ticking clock on
that which is
wondrous
and it was
right
right
it's hard
to come up with
cleverly phrased
universal truths
and
it's hard
to make unique
what we've all
felt
impressed that
i could see
what was
obvious
i think now
was really
just
gratitude that i
loved it
all
even the parts
that crushed
thoroughly
sometimes on
highways
the best parts
of the drive
are the dips
and sudden hills
the imperfections
are what give
you that
feeling
the trick is
and always was
figuring out how
if it's possible
to take the feeling
home
with you
