What an intense eclectic mix of stories posted to the Oil Group!
This spill issues from the oil industry's need for more oil and profits, which need has also given us the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the attendant fallout from those conflicts. For these reasons, plus the fact that petroleum is the basis for industrial and post-industrial life, I'd like to see the focus of the group widened, to take account of the myriad evils that Exxon and Co. have foisted upon us since the beginning of their existence, and also the problems we face in trying to get rid of them.
Interested in stories and poems from any perspective that are tied in, directly or tangentially, to the oil spill in the gulf. Allow your characters to run wild and loose on the page. Show how the oil spill ties into their lives, and hearts and minds, and perhaps what they perceive as "the future." Same with the poems, any perspective that has a window into the spill. Though this is a most serious topic, humor and satire can pack a powerful punch.
