There has been a lot of talk in recent months about the lack of female writers included in places like The New Yorker and The Atlantic. And in Esquire’s recent list of “75 Books Every Man Should Read,” only one was penned by a woman. This is a sad state of affairs, and like so many others, we at Monkeybicycle wish this didn’t need to be a discussion. But since it is, we’ve decided to show our solidarity by hosting a Monkeybicycle Lightning Round! event consisting of nothing but female readers. We’ve rounded up some of the best in the business from the New York area, including Shelley Jackson, Dawn Raffel, Terese Svoboda, Deb Olin Unferth, and many more, for what is sure to be an amazing event.
