...and is time to jump ship and make sure I have all my valuables with me?
It's wild and crazy!
What the actual fuck???
This almost more unnerving than going unread, a condition I'm much more accustomed to. Are we being ...what's the word? Swept? Milked?... by AI? Have we been munched by an algorythym?
It's stupid and it's sad...what a waste of opportunity. Unnecessary arrogant snobbery.
I guess you know something I dont, Darryl. What is stupid and sad? Which waste of opportunity? Whose snobbery?I totally don't understand your comment.
What I think Dianne, Chris and I were referring to was the sudden inexplicable increase in views on all our recent pieces, in my case and I think others as well, an added 400 views literally overnite. I have no idea how or why that happened and would be happy to know some explanation if anyone has a clue.
Is this possibly related to the site having gone down for a couple of days?
I am seriously wondering if it's safe for any member to continue posting at Fictionaut. Fauth and Baker have long abandoned the site, so there is no one to look out for us or to discover what precisely is afoot here. Chris Okum has removed all his stories, and I'm thinking he may have the right idea. I fear infecting my devices with some manner of malware by even visiting Fictionaut. Has anyone reading these words learned what is going on with the excessive and anomalous views of everyone's content?

As fyi, this is what I was advised by one of the "admins" back in May:
"Fictionaut doesn't get a lot of traffic so it's not worth bothering with."
Well, if an "admin" doesn't want to "bother with" anything, why should anyone else. It's nothing but shameful and inexcusable.
Also, I have submitted a friend invite nearly twenty times, with zero success (even though the message I receive each time states "invite sent successfully"). My repeated pleas to the "admins" for assistance have gone unanswered (which is no surprise, based on the May response). I have considered foregoing my profile here and allowing a friend to use it, but what's the point of that.
Fictionaut used to be a thriving community, but it certainly appears those days are gone. The "admins" are apathetic, and evidently could care less about allowing new members. But then again, what would that truly accomplish now.
Anamalous is exactly the right word, Lorenzo. Stories I posted years ago that might get two or three public ( non-fictionaut member) views a day, if that, are now receiving over two hundred views a day. This seems very dubious to me, and one has to suspect some sort of numbers goosing from somewhere. Anyway, I doubt very much they represent authentic reader interest, and am loathe to take them seriously.
I sent the following email to admin just three days ago, but it was immediately returned to me as undeliverable. Clearly no one is manning the helm. It is now apparent that no answers are forthcoming and that we are on our own.
Greetings--
I suspect that more than a few Fictionaut members are curious to know why such an extraordinary number of views are being racked up on original, front page content. These views far exceed anything resembling normal. My own front page content received 200 views in considerably less than 24 hours. And that was just last night till this morning, which does not take into account that this is the second or third day in a row it's been happening, or that the same anomaly occurred a few weeks back. I do not believe I am alone when I ask: What is going on? I think members would appreciate it if one of your representatives would look into it and make a public post of your findings.
Thank you,
Lorenzo Baehne
Someone who knows the internet better than I has suggested that the increase in view numbers is probably because a search engine, maybe Google, has changed the indexing for Fictionaut, connecting us with new readers. She also says that the numbers, while impressive in this context, are not so grand in the web's great digital sea. She didn't say paltry, but that was rather implied.
Relax and enjoy it was her final word.
