I used to LOVE listening to Ernie K-Doe on my little radio in my little room down in New Orleans on the newly-created WWOZ radio station.
It was like attending, being blessed, anointed and SET FREE in the eternal church of the funky-funky truth.
He used to start every program by welcoming the president, the vice-president, state senators, the gov'nur, the mayor and all the city council members to the program because he KNEW they were listening.
They DO NOT make 'em like this anymore:
K-Doe was an original all right but I have to say I'm partial to Little Freddie King:
Maaaaaan....
Those are the people I LOVE!
That is the ONLY CITY I love.
I saw Little Freddy King at Tip's around 1988.
I'll be cookin' red beans n' rice until the day I die.
(but never as good as Buster Holmes)
And my #1 NOLA pick is 101 Runners. Here's an amateur video from FQF '09. I was there, in fact I have my own video somewhere.....

Good times. Always.
Real people, those. With real heart. All originals and each artists in their own right.
Reminded me of this:
"Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art."
-Charlie Parker
