Launched in November 2012, Bloom is a literary site devoted to highlighting, profiling, reviewing, and interviewing authors whose first major work was published when they were 40 or older. Bloom is also a community of artists and readers who believe that “late” is a relative term. If someone is labeled a “late bloomer,” the question Bloom poses is, “Late” according to whom?
We are seeking personal essays from writers of all ages -- young writers who are inspired by diverse artistic paths, older writers who pursued creative work in later life -- on topics related to Bloom's mission. We are open to your interpretation of what "related to Bloom's mission" might mean. And we are interested in fresh, authentic voices that engage the artistic life honestly, with humor, rawness, wisdom (we are less interested in self-promotion or angsty catharsis).
Submissions of 2500 words maximum will be accepted between July 15 and September 15. Publication will be selective, and our editors will aim to respond within three months; please do not query before this time has elapsed. Send your submission as a Word attachment to:
bloom.editorial.asst@gmail.com
Include a brief bio in the email, as well as links to previous publications (please do not include links to or attachments of unpublished work, other than your submission).
Deadline: September 15, 2013
