“Creativity is not a talent. It is a way of operating.”
John Cleese's 1991 lecture on Creativity. If you've got about 36 minutes, well worth the watch (particularly about the last 10 - 12 min):

"We need to be in the open mode when pondering a problem — but! — once we come up with a solution, we must then switch to the closed mode to implement it. Because once we’ve made a decision, we are efficient only if we go through with it decisively, undistracted by doubts about its correctness."
"This is the extraordinary thing about creativity: If just you keep your mind resting against the subject in a friendly but persistent way, sooner or later you will get a reward from your unconscious."
A less likeable genius, but well worth keeping around. Excellent advice, too.
Loosen up your assumptions by playing with deliberately crazy connections...when playing, nothing is wrong
Yep.
;-)
I loved the term "intermediate improbables" - for those little nonsense phrases you think of and insert as placeholders until the proper phrase is found. Now they have a name.
Annnnnnd...the idea that if the solution to a problem arrived easily - you didn't dig hard enough.
"intermediate improbables"
Yeah, that was my favorite part too, but due to the nature of the thing I didn't know how to use it in my quote!
you should have tried harder - must notta been in open mode
:)
HA!
my hovercraft is full of eels
Shhh...
(creatfultivity is frowned upon here...)
Don't mention the war. I did once, but I think I got away with it....
Watch it guys. This is bordering on creativity. It must stop.
But first...for something completely different...
But father...!
You wanna argue about it?
BOIN THE WITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that reminds me of some of the forum threads.
Ahhhh, those were the days.
Ah, an afternoon on youtube with Monty Python. Who would not be happy?

This one goes out to all the poets out there.
"an afternoon on youtube with Monty Python. Who would not be happy?"
