Here's one of mine on James Kelman:
It would be nice to hear some opinions on Kelman. Translated Accounts is very interesting for its highly unusual syntax. Here is a very typical short sentence:
They lied, as he also, he was a liar, this man. [- pg1]
I have never read anything quite like it. You would have to call it "experimental". It's totally unlike everything else he's done (that I've read obviously).
The photo of Kelman inside the dust jacket of Translated Accounts is one of the spookiest author portraits you will ever see. The right eyeball will haunt you. The book is worth the price of admission for that alone.
I see what you mean. It's interesting like a flower you've never seen before, but you instantly recognize its meaning in the world.
