I live in the eastern part of Pennsylvania, actually where I live is the home to Steven Vincent Benet, the writer of The Devil and Daniel Webster, and the poem John Brown's Body. I believe that he is then only "celebrity" to come out of my hometown. I love to write, although, I don't know how good I am. Writing is an expression of how I feel. I have kept a journal for 33 years. I've never been that committed to anything else.
Writing is an outlet where I can visualize all the thoughts that are dancing around in my head. Funny, but once I get an idea on paper, I feel a relief. I like to listen to people and the stories they have to tell. I tweak them and turn them into scenes where I control the action, and manipulate the plot. Some of the best ideas that I have come from stories that someone has told me about one of their family members, their friends, themselves, etc.
I love Kurt Vonnegut. He has a talent for turning the mundane American life into a ridiculous tragedy. He's right in your face with common sense in a surreal life. Eurdora Welty is another one of my favorites. I love her take on souther experiences and her descriptions of life. You can almost touch the crepe myrtle and smell the pecan pie baking when you read one of her books. One of my favorite books (which I can honestly say was better than the movie) was Gone With the Wind. It had everything in it. It is truly a great American novel. Creator by Jeremy Leven is one of my all time favorites. I came away from that novel realizing that maybe (if there is a creator) he/she/it needs us as much as we need him/her/it.
