I might be an Afghan
Between powers a puppet
Pawned in a Great Game;

Weak, then powerful;
Alive, then dead;
Somebody, anybody, nobody.

I might be someone else,
Maybe a pharaoh,
Maybe a dung-beetle,
I might be you,
I might be a third person;
Never more than
A safe conduit for some genes.

Why do you write?

Why do I write? Because ink flows in my veins, that's why!
