I write to tell me who I am. Characters come in any stages. Some stick around, others are like angels; showing me the way when I need it. The most important thing for me is to keep at it. A million words may be fatal, but in there, in the folders, there is gold to be said.
John Updike, Saul Bellows, John Irving, Vadal, Garcia, Seamus Heaney, are my classic growing years. Rick Riordan has a place on the shelf as well as E. L. Doctorow, Joseph Campbell, Philip Caputo, Daniel Pinkwater, Kitteridge, Amy Baker (unknown), and Jeffrey Scott (script witer). There are others...many others.
If I had to choose the book, which changes everytime I want to know what time it is, I do not know. Cider House Rules comes close. I know, I know, pretty skimpy of me faced with all the classics. It is a hard question.
