About Me

I'm a short story writer who lives in Brooklyn and thinks about the impact of world history on individuals. I also think about dogs, food, sex, families, and the history of political theory.

Why do you write?

Writing is the only thing that calms me down.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Last few years: Patti Smith (Just Kids), Kalman (Principals of Uncertainty), Derek Jarman (At Your Own Risk), Sebald (Austerlitz), Ishiguro (Never Let Me Go), Xavier Marias (Your Face Tomorrow), Hans Fallada (Every Man Dies Alone).

In the past:Lynda Barry, Calvino, Lahiri (Interpreter of Maladies), Kipling (Kim), Edgeworth (Castle Rackrent), C Bronte (Villette), A Bronte (Tenant of Wildfell Hall), Austen (P & P, Emma), Woolf (- tho is this even still true? Maybe it would be more true now?), Margaret Laurence (Stone Angel), Margaret Atwood's The Edible Woman exploded in my high school brain, Leonard Cohen's Beautiful Losers. Thomas Hardy. Christopher Isherwood (A SIngle Man). I still think about Allison's Bastard Out of Carolina. Ross MacDonald.
