About Me

I am a writer and musician, living in York, England. I was born in Berlin, in the same hospital where they used to treat Rudolph Hess, and grew up in an Armed Forces family around Scotland, England and Cyprus. I am Scottish by birth, but now live in York where I work as a software developer, and write fiction. Occasionally I make music as Novak.

My writing has appeared in various places online and in print, including Sundog Lit, Metazen, fwriction:review, Fractured West, > kill author, Atticus Review and others. I have a novella looking for a home, and I am currently writing a novel entitled Desk Clerk.

Why do you write?

I am very influenced by music, in particular the early albums of The Cure (Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography). The tone and atmosphere of these albums finds its way into my work in many different ways. I also find that the rhythms of music have an impact on the style of my writing.

Film also plays a big part of my creative process - especially the works of David Lynch, David Fincher, Terry Gilliam, David Cronenberg etc.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Bulgakov, Kafka, Ballard, Joyce, Dostoyevsky, Burroughs

Welcome, Kenny. I've been recently inducted into the cult myself. So far, it's been fantastic. I appreciate you getting right down to business with your fine comment on my story Pig Girl. There's a lot of wonderful writing here to read by a very friendly and helpful group of writers. I'm looking forward to reading your work.
