I love modernism, so pretty much anything by James Joyce or Virginia Woolf. I also adore Nabokov (Lolita and all of his short stories). "Nine Stories" by Salinger and "Franny and Zooey." Also short stories by Flannery O'Connor, Alice Munro, Katherine Mansfield and Joyce Carol Oates. "The North China Lover" and "The Square" by Marguerite Duras. I also really enjoy the poetry of T.S. Eliot, Baudelaire, Elizabeth Bishop and Philip Larkin. Oh, and the stories of Alexsander Hemon. Also, dystopic fiction (1984, A Handmaid's Tale, We).
Ah, Irvine. I was there when it began, with Richard Ford. Except I was one of the partying drunken poets, unlike Richard.
Ah...I just looked at your profile and saw that your pic is with the Joyce bust in St. Stephen's Green! I love Joyce and Dublin. I went there in 2004 for the Bloomsday centenary. Cheers to a fellow Joycean!
Nice to share the same birthday! Keep posting stories...they're all great.
Boy, James Joyce was really tall!
