I worked for about ten years on staff, then another five freelance, for various consumer magazines. Somewhere in there, I wrote a book on gardening and contributed to an essay collection about mothering boys (It's a Boy).
I'm currently crawling my way back to work after sending the second kid to school, starting a business and working on a novel and a short story collection.
Trite as it might sound, I can't imagine doing anything else. I've been writing since I was a kid, giving a home to all those stories previously stuck in my head.
There are so many authors I respect and love reading, only a few being: Chekhov, Henry James, Edith Wharton, David Foster Wallace, Alice Munroe, Kate Atkinson, George Saunders, Joan Didion, Lorrie Moore, Nabokov...
Favorite books: Harriet the Spy (Made me a writer), Portrait of a Lady. Speak, Memory
Hi. David and Lorrie. Two of my favorites. Also loved the drawing on the blog. Quite beautiful. Welcome aboard.
