There is no right answer to this except that it is what I want to do. It isn't just writing, but making up stories and having those stories read.
Cormac McCarthy, Deirdre McNamer, Richard Ford and James Welch are authors that I consistently turn to. Current favorite books are "Out Stealing Horses" by Per Petterson, "Redemption Falls" by Joseph O'Connor, and "Red Rover" by Deirdre McNamer. I don't often read short stories, but Annie Proulx's Wyoming stories are some of my favorite reads. A few other books that come to mind as favorites: "The Crimson Petal and the White" by Michel Faber, "Lonesome Dove" by Larry McMurtry, and "All the Pretty Horses," by Cormac McCarthy, "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" by Mohsin Hamid.
