I'm a 52-year-old father of a soon-to-be 9-year-old. I work for the Army as a public affairs specialist. I'm the seventh child of thirteen from upstate New York who joined the Army, became an Army journalist and stayed with the field after retiring from the Army. I'm mostly educated in foreign affairs and journalism, though now I'm studying the classics. I'm mostly a science fiction fan, because the ideas fascinate me.
I write because I'm interested in the words, the style and the ideas. I don't finish because I can usually figure enough of those out to satisfy me before I can figure out the end of the story.
My favorite authors are of three types: Robert Heinlein, his contemporaries and heirs who explore great ideas with great stories; funny guys like Dave Barry or Carl Hiaasen; and writers like John Irving and Tom Robbins who make me jealous of their use of words or style. So my favorite books are Stranger In A Strange Land, Cider House Rules, Illusions, the original Dune trilogy and so on.
