About Me

I earned an MFA degree studying with Robert Olen Butler and have published short stories, poetry, and nonfiction in Sweet Tea and Afternoon Tales, an anthology by the Gulf Coast Writers’ Association; Oasis Journal (2007, 2008, and 2009); New Orleans Review, Louisiana Literature, and the Denver Quarterly. Yellow Flag Press published two of my poems this year as part of their Vision/Verse series in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Council of Southwest Louisiana. I am current Vice President and newsletter editor of the Bayou Writers Group, a board member of the Ethel Precht HOPE Breast Cancer Foundation, and a member of She Writes.

Why do you write?

I write because I love doing it, and I'm fueled by enthusiasm for the work. The great works I've read through the years make me want to be a better writer every day. I write about relationships mostly, people interacting for better and worst, and their attitudes toward each other and the natural world.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Susan Vreeland, Sarah Dunant, Eudora Welty, James Lee Burke, Ann Patchett, Elizabeth George, Valerie Martin. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective series, Bel Canto, The Lord of the Rings, Little Women, Howard's End, The Dracula Tapes.
