  • About Me

Mildly insane, mildly infamous mamawriter living in the beautiful and beautifully overpriced bay area of California. I have two superfun kids and one superfun husband. I am over-the-moon, crazy in love with my dog, Tamale. I have various degrees from various institutions, and I have been published here and there. Writing bios isn't my favorite thing in the world, but I'm friendly and effusive if you talk to me in person (or tweet to me in twitter). I think that's all you need to know.

Oh yeah, so's you can tweet to me: @dewichick

    Why do you write?

Whoa, this is a heavy question. Way more heavy than the profile questions on Yelp. Um, I would say, primarily, little things fuel my creativity; the tiny, quirky details of humanity that normal people rarely notice: the way a gal sitting next to me in a restaurant looks at her date, snippets of conversation I overhear in the AT&T store, the way a doctor tends to reach up to his ear if you ask him a question he can't answer. I write to show people like me that they are not alone.

    Any favorite authors? Books?

In no order whatsoever: Haruki Murakami, Sylvia Plath, Hemingway, Karen Tei Yamashita, Ursula LeGuin, Anne Fadiman, Denis Johnson, Camus, George Carlin, Cherrie Moraga, Sandra Cisneros, Robert Heinlein ... and on and on.

Favorite books will read a lot like the list above: The Stranger, The Bell Jar, Loving in the War Years, The Left Hand of Darkness, Stranger in a Strange Land, A Voyage to Arcturus and so many more that flutter about in my head like butterflies that refuse to land.
