I grew up with little adult supervision and punk rock. I dream often about made up ailments, and would be a hypochondriac if I had the time.
Coffee and stubborn determination. Cigarettes are good too, but the ash always falls on my keyboard.
Love me some Pynchon, Calvino etc, but really anything compelling and slightly insane always gets me.
