I live in San Francisco but am from New York. I feel disloyal for living "Out West" while being from "Back East." This has been pointed out to me on several occasions and is possibly indicative of a more generalized type of self-loathing. I have degrees in anthropology, English and American literature, and creative writing from New York University, which probably just means I stuck around school for too long. The best thing I've ever done was love a girl who worked as a crop duster. The worst thing I've ever done is make my mother cry. I have a younger brother who is a chef.
