You are not Medusa

by Samuel Derrick Rosen

Hands immune to time
Derived from nothing

Limbs Greek and strange
Gingerbread blue eyes

Have suppressed me
I am not who I am

In such a dark humility
I wait for you

To implement your laws
You are not Medusa

The occult occult enough
You will not condemn me

But simply teach me why
Stone outlives us all.

2nd Version

Small, impermanent hands
Tragically immune to nothing

Impervious braids of hair
A mass of passive snakes

Limbs so Greek and strange
Gingerbread willowed eyes

Feed me and then suppress me
Until I am not who I am

In dark humility I wait for you
To implement your laws

But you are not Medusa
And you will not condemn me

But simply teach me why
Stone outlives us all.

3rd and last version

In dark humility
I invite you

I will tolerate your laws
I am not who I am

Hands inhumed in grief
have subverted me,

limbs Greek and cruel,
gingerbread blind eyes.

But you are not Medusa,
you will not condemn me

but simply teach me why
stone outlives us all.
