There is no such thing as stillness

by Samuel Derrick Rosen

Let us mimic fire
in a commonwealth of ice
Let us be the guests
no host would dare receive

Let us fill ourselves with Zen,
knowing it is not enough,
nor should it be

We will not live
as beggars under bridges
nor reject one drop of water

We will dry the tears of statues,
pin hymns to the hands of clocks.
