Patsy Cline Sings Crazy

by Samuel Derrick Rosen

Version 1

Patsy Cline sings Crazy
over much howling
of poetry
and things that act
as if they are dying
but have only just been born.

Nothing to write home about
except
all the telephones don't work
and some of us are trapped
inside an Edward Hopper painting.

No one plays the blues, if they feel them.
The insane know everything
about quantam mechanics
and its cocktail hour
and the aliens grow restless
at the thought of being calm.  As I walk away

from divine interventions and sunburst betrayals
I can hear the sound of elevator doors
opening and closing
and a world of animals
and a world of men

come together slowly
in light that is only illumination
and the dead returning to the living
and the living returning to the dead
and firefly wishes
that must be left unanswered

and Patsy Cline still singing Crazy.
