by Mark Waldrop
I was going to write a love poem
about a man named Alex and a
girl named Dee Dee, but I couldn't
remember them as well as I wanted.
I knew about the time she painted their
names on the overpass
but I have forgotten
things about them.
I don't know what became of the
dog they bought, or the story
behind the tattoo Alex has on his
left calf
It was a raccoon face I believe but,
I can't remember why.
As for Dee Dee I don't know why she
was with someone so much older
I hope they do well together.

This made me smile and laugh. The love poem framed by the empty space of all the narrator does not recall.
Liked the last stanza a lot. Sweetly optimistic.
This too made me smile and think about people I have known over the years, and perhaps, some of the things that I might have forgotten.
