The Blue Hours is definitely genre busting. On the surface its "women's erotica." Why? Because the author is female and there's lots of sex. However, The Blue Hours is the hero's journey, think Joseph Campbell, there is a real psychological arc to the character. There are questions of identity, questions of love. The sexual frankness is not there to titillate but to illuminate.
Atticus Books is a small literary press based in Kensington, Md., a close-in Washington, D.C., suburb. We specialize in genre-busting literary fiction—i.e., titles that fall between the cracks of genre fiction and compelling narratives that feature memorable main characters. We publish books and regularly post original short stories, poems, literary essays and creative non-fiction on our website.
We have a healthy appetite for satire, but consistently hanker for dialogue attuned to realism. We are partial to stories that resonate sweetly, bittersweetly, bitterly, tastefully, even tastelessly – as long as they provoke thought and awaken the ethereal senses. Our mission at Atticus Books is to deliver a first-class experience to the reader. Period.
