Hey, folks,
So there's this journal in the South, The Dead Mule, named after the Dead Mule School of Southern Literature. I suppose one needs to be standing at least middlin' deep in southern lit to find the joke as amusing as I do, but when Kate told me about it, I laughed and laughed, thinking of soviet tractor novels, or french tales of maquisards and young women and hidden springs. Or chinese poems of a certain era: "We are marching, resolute, into the scarlet dawn!"
Anyway, they require all contributors to write a Southern Legitimacy Statement. They are nothing if not authentic! You can find mine here: http://www.deadmule.com/fiction/ . If you're interested, you can find my Desire here: http://www.deadmule.com/fiction/2011/02/w-f-landry-desire/
And yes, they spell my name with a D in the south. Always... ;)
Thanks,
Bill
This is a cool journal. I've had work appear, and, yeah, I spent some time on my legitimacy statement. Check it out, folks.
Bill Lantry you have more acceptances than anyone I know!
I am going "southern" (incognito) to get into this mag. Don't "tell" on me-- ha ha!
"Why my name is Scarlett Susan O'Hara Tepper, and I'm just plum delighted to be considered for your sweet little ole magazine.."
How is that, Bill, for my cover letter?
Have always enjoyed that venue.
