This came up on google alerts.

The poster, Ken Brosky, picked it up from Flavorwire's choice of Blip as a top internet magazine. I googled his name. He seems to be a fiction writer living in Milwaukee.

I've been using the internet since 1996 for email and in public forums since 2001. In that time, only once has another writer done something like this, in fact, it was a poet in Washington, D.C. whose friend wrote a poem comparing me to Condoleeza Rice. This bit of internet verbiage, while singling out my story, finds fault with Blip and somehow relates its appearance on the internet to George Bush. I did not just ignore the Condoleeza Rice poem. I posted it at my own blog, where it still is, and where you can read it. The D.C. poet, a friend of friends of my own, made the move to publish his own blog privately on the internet.

    Ann,

I think I'm missing something. Looks like a local paper has 'hired' a local MFA student to do a series of short reviews.

They all take pretty much the same form: a little intro, a snippet of story, and a link to the full story. Often something about the journal.

Is the guy sane? Good question. We do know he has good taste, since he picked your story to highlight. Given his style and phrasing, I'm not sure it would go on a vita, but he's *trying* to be flattering... ;)

Not much to worry about, I think. The earrings in his picture seem a bit much, but hey, it's Wisconsin... ;)

    Thanks,

    Bill

Bill, thanks so much for supplying the link above that leads to Brosky's other, sincere brief mentions. It seems I read something weird into Brosky's paragraph about George Bush. I hope so. I missed the flattery both about the story and about Blip. You caught it with your kind eye.

I think it's great, congrats. The Bush thing seems to be a weird joke about the Mississippi Review moving online -- which is particularly odd since it was, in fact, the first literary magazine to spawn a web version, in 1995. I left a comment to that effect.
