I've just read Psychic Soviet and had previously read Supernatural Strategies for Forming a Rock N' Roll Group. They almost make me want to abandon fiction for whacked out manifestos.
I'd seen a couple of his bands back in the day, but have yet to hear Chain and the Gang, and have always enjoyed his interviews on Soft Focus.
I was just wondering if anybody else had an opinion.
The actual title of the 2013 book is Supernatura Strategies for Making a Rock N' Roll group, not forming.
Bah!
I think both books are incredible hybrid works of fiction/theory. I loan out Psychic Soviet whenever I get a chance and the people who read it - most don't - hand it back to me without saying anything. His ideas about rock and music history are some of the most original I've ever encountered, right up there with Meltzer. I was always too bourgeois for Nation of Ulysses, but I dig the Make-Up. On a tangential note, The Fucking Champs are the best music for jogging, and I'm sure if Tim Green heard someone say that he would kick their ass.
