President Obama's opening sentences borrowed heavily from his inaugural poet, Richard Blanco's, poem "One Today." I thought it was a great speech, but I hope his speechwriters thanked Blanco for the idea, cadence, and tone.
I loved that poem. An influential poem blossoms into the larger scheme of ideas and songs, becomes the spoken dream of many. When it does, the poet should rejoice. How many poems are so wonderfully resonated in the larger world beyond poems? Not many.
Were I Richard Blanco, I would be proud.
