Seamus Heaney, 1939 - 2013
Some should live forever,
god-like,
but small enough to love.
I heard Heaney read a couple years ago in rural Minnesota at College of St. Benedict. His wife had traveled with him. I remember his twinkly blue eyes and that he recited the first poems to the audience from memory. I was sitting in the first row of the theater, no place to hide from his authoritative purity. I thought the students in the audience were fortunate to be near him, that it was a special day in their educations. R.I.P.
