Idiot's Guide to the Environment

by Darryl Price

Killing trees is a crime against the earth.
A crime against the earth is a crime against

the universe. A crime against the
universe is a crime against all beings.

Killing birds is a crime against sky
and wind. Killing humans is genocide.

Why do we never ask what made the birds
get sick in the first place? The bats got insecticide

on their noses and up their
nostrils and into their blood. That wasn't

a choice, it was hunger. Killing a species
is a crime against the elements

of all things that are here with us and as
alive as us. It disturbs the natural

flow of water, the primary presence
in our bodies and Earth's migratory

patterns of self survival itself.
Killing imagination is a crime

against freedom. Killing dreams is a crime
against continuing to grow as a human.
