Portrait of the Author as a Poet

by P.R. Mercado

I am an awful poet. My images
are stale, my line breaks predictable.
I know no other device apart from
apostrophe, hyperbaton, and the
occasional, accidental consonance.
I am an awful poet because
you are supposed to lay your life down
on the page and my life has the viscosity
of stagnant water.
